A 17th-century finca tucked into the Puigpunyent valley, half an hour from Palma and cradled by the Tramuntana mountains, Son Net opens its second act under the Finca Cortesin group with Lorenzo Castillo's heirloom-maximalist interiors filling the original courtyard, chapel and frescoed salons. Across 31 rooms, including six poolside cottages, expect bespoke fabrics, marble bathrooms and genuine antiques layered against citrusy fresh palettes. Mar & Duix, set in the former olive press under chef Sergio Olmeda, runs a locavore Mallorcan menu, while a 30-metre saltwater pool floats above the valley and a 1,000sqm Moorish-style spa is taking shape on the terrace below.

Garden lovers, slow-paced travellers stitching together a chic Mallorcan itinerary between Palma and the coast, and anyone who values cooking with provenance.
Should look elsewhere:
Families wanting a proper kids' club, beach lovers (the coast is a winding drive away) and minimalists who find baroque portraits, layered rugs and dark four-posters oppressive rather than romantic. The historic architecture also limits step-free movement in places.
Bottom line
What you're really paying for is Castillo's interior project and a service culture being levelled up to Cortesin standards, set against one of the most peaceful corners of the island. Book a Palace Room or, for honeymooners and groups wanting villa privacy, the Pool Cottage House. Winter stays are a quiet draw once the new spa opens, with the valley largely to yourself.
