Character and identity
The Marker sits on two acres of the Key West Bight, the first new-build hotel in Old Town in over two decades and the better for being designed with local sensibilities in mind. The architecture reads as Caribbean cottage in creams and pale blues, set among palms, with three pools threading through tropical gardens. Inside the 96 rooms and suites, contemporary coastal interiors lean on clean lines, oversized windows, natural light and restrained pops of colour. Starboard Restaurant & Bar handles all-day dining and harbourfront cocktails. Service is friendly and unbuttoned, the register more island-easygoing than white-glove.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and groups of friends who want a stylish Key West base with pools, harbour views and tropical gardens, but also expect to walk straight into the food, music and bar scene of Old Town. Design-aware travellers who appreciate local art (Adam Russell's "Five Watchovers" greets you out front) without wanting anything precious.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone after a proper beach resort, formal fine dining or polished, anticipatory five-star service. The on-site restaurant menu is limited, the surrounding bars mean a faint soundtrack of live music carries over, and the service style is relaxed rather than choreographed.
Bottom line
What sets this place apart is location plus calibration: a genuine harbourfront garden setting three blocks from Duval, delivered without the stiffness that usually accompanies a luxury label in Key West. Book a higher category for the water views and oversized windows, plan to eat and drink out across Old Town rather than relying on Starboard, and target shoulder season for softer rates.
