Character and identity
Set on 220 acres outside Austin, Miraval reveals itself slowly: a country road, a hill rimmed with solar lamps, then a limestone-walled circular drive and an arrival pavilion with a glassed-in fireplace, modular seating, and a vast iron swing. The 117 rooms, all overhauled when Hyatt relaunched the property in 2019, sit across guest houses with private balconies overlooking Hill Country, Lake Travis, and two protected nature reserves. Two infinity pools, an equine center, an onsite farm, and a 30-treatment-room spa offering more than 75 treatments anchor the programme. The register is hushed, device-free, and adult.
Who's it for
Best for:
High-powered professionals and couples who genuinely want to switch off. If you value all-inclusive healthful dining, a serious spa menu, meditation cushions and Tibetan bowls in your room, and structured wellness programming (cooking classes, equine sessions, yoga), this delivers. Solo travellers on a reset trip fit naturally.
Should look elsewhere:
Families, party-minded groups, and travellers who want easy access to Austin's bars and music. Cell phones are restricted to designated zones, alcohol costs extra on top of the all-inclusive rate, and the property is designed for staying put, not day-tripping into the city.
Bottom line
This is a full-immersion wellness retreat first and a resort second, and the entire experience, from device sleeping bags to kale-forward menus, is calibrated for guests committed to that premise. Book a lake-view room, plan at least three nights to make the spa and class schedule pay off, and treat any Austin sightseeing as a separate trip.
